Anti-Defamation League Uses Homophobia to Defame Others

To quote their web site: "The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is dedicated to promoting and ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of individuals and events in all media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation." Or so they say.

So, it came as quite a surprise to learn that at the GLAAD Media Awards, Garry Marshall, their emcee, said "Did you hear about Calista Flockhart's accident? Don't worry--she's all right; she's been faxed to the hospital!" The audience guffawed its approval. Hum.

It came as a further surprise that no mention of the incident could be found on their web site and no apology that we know of has come from the organization or Gaary Marshall to Calista and Harrison Ford.

You see, it is our belief that making fun of small breasted women is deeply rooted in homophobia in this country. Linked with words "Sissy" and "You must like young girls" or "You must like young boys" directed at heterosexual men who like or prefer small breasted women, it pushes straight and many closet gays into presumably favoring large breasted women when neither is the case.

We're asking GLAAD to (1) Respond to our inquiry and (2) Make a public and written apology to Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford for such public remarks. Let's see if GLAAD really stands behind what they profess.
