1. Chicken Soup for the Prisoner’s Soul -- Update

Our second printing will be gone before the holidays. We’re told that our publisher will print more in early 2002 for a "silent release." That may mean little or no publicity and advertising, but our book should be possible to obtain through some normal distributions. As I learn more, I’ll share.

2. What people are saying about Chicken Soup for the Prisoner's Soul

"I just received my copy of "Chicken Soup for the Prisoners Soul." What a beautiful book! I am the leader of Prison Fellowship Ministries at my church, and I am often questioned on this ministry I choose to serve. People don't question other ministries. If you help the elderly or people of poverty everyone pats you on the back. Our ministry is not as easily accepted. Many are baffled as to why anyone would bother. I’m going to order a box of books for my volunteer group. It is a must for prison ministry volunteers! Plus I will keep a copy on hand at work.

For now on when I am asked, "Why," I will loan out your book. Thank you so much for caring about the forgotten ones. It is actually a loved one in prison who told me about your book. He said it’s helping him cope with doing his time." Antonette Flamenco

"Chicken Soup for the Prisoner's Soul" has been a favorite of participants in the faith-based residential program at Tomoka Correctional Institution near Daytona Beach, Florida—a maximum-security unit. ‘It makes you think, and we need that,’ was one inmate's response. A local ministry provided copies for the whole class at Christmas last year. Mickey Griffin

Paul Jagen started a Toastmaster’s Club in a Texas jail. Please see the article Linked below: "State's first prison Toastmasters chapter formed at Gist jail in Beaumont" (Note: one fact in the article is wrong. Gist is the first Texas jail with a TI club. Another gavel club was formed in a Houston prison about 12 months ago.) www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/metropolitan/1119122
