Barbara twice British
Ladies Rally Champion. Works directly with
Racingline Ltd in the organisation,
promotion and management of the UK Formula Ford
Championship.
Results
Castle Douglas driver Barbara Armstrong took the
top local honours in the RSAC Scottish Rally which
roared through the region on Friday and
Saturday.
The SEAT works driver finished 14th overall in a
strong field and now leads the British Ladies
Championship. Her team-mates Toni Gardemeister and
Gwyndaf Evans both finished inside the top four to
strengthen SEAT's Mobil 1 British Rally
Championship but the two-day event based at
Dumfries was dominated by the Renault Meganes with
the Finnish duo of Tapio Laukkanen and Kaj
Lindstrom winning easily from Martin Rowe and Derek
Ringer, the defending Champion.
But there were good performances also from other
locals in privately entered cars, with Alan
McMorran and Albert Connelly finishing a very
creditable 21st in their Peugeot 205 at their first
attempt at the International two-day event.
Barbara, who re-took the lead in the Pirelli
Ladies Cup after a good performance through the
forest stages of Dumfires and Galloway in her SEAT
Ibiza, failed to let a series or problems wear her
down. Starting from 10th on the road, she lost more
time than most in the dust on leg one through
Dalbeattie on Friday morning. She also overcame
power steering problems early in leg 2 to challenge
for a top 10 position. On the second day problems
struck again for the Castle Douglas driver and
co-driver John Richardson of Northallerton, with
the power steering belt falling off part of the way
through Glengapp, which was SS7. It was refitted at
the end of the stage but came off again before the
start of the Black Loch stage and she spent the
rest of that stage with the co-driver changing
gears so she could hold onto the steering
wheel.
Barbara said; "This was my home international
and I wanted to do well. The car was running great
and although I lost time, I was happy to
finish."
Barbara to Work with Formula Ford -
Further to the announcement at the Formula Ford
Festival, the 2004 Formula Ford Championship will
now sit alongside F3/GT championships and Barbara
has been appointed as Championship Manager. Click

March 2003 - Armstrong aims for US
campaign (from Autosport Magazine) - Former SEAT
Cupra Sport works driver Barbara Armstrong is
trying to piece a deal together to compete in the
SCCA ProRally Championship in America. Armstrong is
likely to tackle May's Rim of the World Rally in an
AV Sport-tuned Subaru Impreza, and she says she is
keen to compete on a regular basis Statesite.
Armstrong will team up with co-driver Claire Mole,
potentially creating the first all-female lineup in
the SCCA series. "There's a lot of interest in
getting a femals crew out there" she said.
March 2003 - Armstrong for ASCAR (from
Autosport Magazine) - Former British Ladies rally
champion Barbara Armstrong is the latest driver to
switch attention to the Rockingham-based ASCAR
stock car championship. The Scot will take her
rookie test next week. She ais to contest this
year's full ASCAR calendar.
Armstrong, 37, admitted that she had been
watching the series closely and found the format of
the cars and the racing appealing. "It looks
great", she said "Lots of power and fairly
agricultural levels of technology. I had a good
look around the cars when I was up at Rockingham,
and I'm well up for the series. I did some oval
racing in stock cars a while ago and took to that
pretty well. This should be good fun".
It will not be Armstrong's first foray into
circuit racing. Two years ago, she competed in the
Porsche Cup with top team Parr Motorsport, scoring
eight third places and finishing eighth in the
final Championship standings.
Test Driving Over the years Barbara's
automotive knowledge has been fine-tuned to match
the sophistication of the cars she drives. This
experience can be utilised by manufacturers,
private teams, or for independent media
assessment.
