Hometown: Anchorage, Alaska
Ksenia (Katie) Deits, 16, came with her family
to Alaska where she met Iditarod finisher,
Christine Roalofs, in 2013, and was promptly
introduced to the sport of dog mushing. She says
Christine’s dogs are called the “City
Slickers.” “I am very proud to run her
dogs. I have a fun time with them.” She has a
brother, Alex, who likes to help Katie and
Christine, but Katie says he prefers skiing to
mushing. She attends Bartlett High School and is a
junior this year. She enjoys hiking and biking and
says she wants to become a veterinary technician.
She says “yes” she plans to continue
mushing.
