Schedule

It was definitely Ladies’ Day in the first race of day, the Autosport Caterham EuroCup round. Rachel Green, here leading a group of cars at Knicker Brook, recovered from a spin to take the lead on the last lap and score her first race win. Sarah Reader, who had been fastest in qualifying, finished third. Rachel went on to lead the second race from lights to flag to make it two wins in one day.

Rachel Green At Oulton Park (4/23-24/05)
Rounds 3 and 4 of the Powertrain Caterham Championship took place at Oulton Park on April 23rd/24th with two nailbiting races, for former Caterham Champion Rachel Green. Disappointed with her performance at Donnington Park, she came to Oulton looking for a podium finish. Despite it alluding her, she did hold off the favourite for the championship, David Dyson, in race 1 to take 4th place. In race 2 she drove the race of her life. Having missed a gear of the start Rachel was languishing in 13th place by the first corner. This she restored to ninth place by the end of lap 1 and fought her way back up to finish 5th she was 4th but again the gearbox foiled her to leave her beaten by Nathan Bell. She did however score fastest lap on her drive through the field so that podium must be waiting for her at Thruxton on May 28/29.

Season off to flying start (4/2/05)
For the five members whose season started at the Donnington Formula 3 meeting on April 2nd, the adrenaline rush started slightly early when they were featured on Anglia Television on Friday the 1st April. Anglia’s sports reporter Linda O’Brien received a tip off that three ladies from her television area were kicking off their motorsports season at Donnington Park. After a little quick research she featured all five girls, focusing on their BWRDC membership. The headliner was of course Susie Stoddart who was commencing her Formula 3 season with Alan Dockiing Racing., and based in Northampton the heart of the Anglia region. Rachael Green competed in the Powertrain Caterham series.

Type of Motorsport Race – Caterham Graduates Racing Club
First year of Competition 2000
Why did you start? Always wanted to race, also dreamt of owning a Caterham. My dad saw an article for the ‘Caterham Academy’ in Autocar magazine and it just seemed perfect!
Previous Championships / Competitions Academy 2000 – 6th overall
Graduates 2001 – 9th overall
Graduates 2002 – Champion
Previous Achievements 2000: St Eval, Cornwall: Sprint – 1st event win
2001: Non championship race at Spa Francorchamps – 1st race win
2002: 4 wins, 7 further podiums, 2 poles and a fastest lap. (1st woman to win a Graduates main race and to head up a Caterham championship table, 1st ever Caterham Motorsport female champion).
Best Race / drive and why? Brands Hatch 2002. This was the final of our championship and I won the qualifying race then after a dire start, fought back up the field to take the win in the main race and claim the championship title.

Worst Race / drive and why? It has to be Castle Coombe 2001 – I had led the race for 8 of the 10 laps then a lapse in concentration dropped me backed to 5th and with only 1 lap to go, I only managed to claw back to 4th. It was my best chance to not only gain my 1st podium but to take my 1st win and I blew it! Took me another 10 races before I claimed that elusive 1st win…!

Favourite Circuit / Venue So many for different reasons – Brands is probably THE one though, since it is my local, and scene of my championship victory! But I love driving Oulton and Cadwell too, and having twice tested at Donington, but never raced there, I think that may now be in my top 5. And I suppose if I was doing a top 5, and therefore had to pick one other, it would probably be a toss up between Knockhill, Croft and Pembrey (have I left any out?!!!).

Types of cars competed / owned Caterham Classic. 2000/2001/2002
