Life reunites five celebrities with the teachers who changed their lives

The August 19, 2005 issue of LIFE magfazine celebrates the roles teachers play in our lives by reuniting five famous personalities with their favorite teachers. Through intimate photos and interviews, the pairs display the special connection many of us share with those who have helped nurture our talents.

Popular IndyCar driver Danica Patrick, whose fourth-place finish in this year’s Indianapolis 500 was a record for a woman, and Bobby Rahal, co-owner of Patrick’s Rahal Letterman Racing Team: “…Fortunately, Bobby said he would help me [Rahal signed Patrick to his team in 2002]; that’s why I’m here,” says Patrick of her assent to the top of the Indy racing circuit. “One of the biggest things he’s taught me is, you have to earn your right to be there. You have to drive with that aggression all the time.”
